The hope credit is a nonrefundable education tax credit of up to $1,500 for each eligible student. The credit is only available for the first two years of post-secondary per student. In order to be eligible each student needs to be pursuing a degree or other recognized educational credential and must be enrolled half time or more for at least one academic period beginning each year.
